Not only do I not know what I believe but also I cannot know for sure that I believe. How can I define precisely what my attitude is toward something it cannot conceivably grasp Can I be said to be in the relation of belief in any usual sense of that term toward something that I cheerfully and readily acknowledge to be absolutely incomprehensible to me... No man can be sure that he is in faith and we can say of no man with certainty that he has or does not have faith. ...Not only does faith always carry its opposite uncertainty within itself but also this faith is never a static condition that is -had- but a movement toward... And toward what In the nature of the case we cannot state this what. We cannot make a flat assertion about our faith like a simple assertion that we have blue eyes or are six feet tall. More than this the affirmation of our faith can never be made in the simple indicative mood at all. The statement I believe can only be uttered as a prayer.

Our vision of the heavenly realm...can sustain us through the most difficult of days and circumstances. It births hope amidst hardship and nurtures faith amidst opposition.

So what do you do when you are stuckThe first thing I do when I am stuck is pray. But Im not talking about a quick Help me Lord Sundays a comin prayer. When I get stuck I get up from my desk to head for my closet. Literally. If Im at the office I go over to a corner that I have deemed my closet away from home. I get on my knees and remind God that this was not my idea it was HisNone of this is new information to GodThen I ask God to show me if there is something He wants to say to prepare me for what He wants me to communicate to our congregation. I surrender my ideas my outline and my topic. Then I just stay in that quiet place until God quiets my heartMany times I will have a breakthrough thought or idea that brings clarity to my message. . .Like you I am simply a mouthpiece. Getting stuck is one way God keeps me ever conscious of that fact.

Whether we write lyrics or craft legislation sell homes or teach classes design spaces or open franchises prayer is a critical part of the creative process. Dont just brainstorm praystorm.

Audacious faith is not passive. Neither is audacious prayer. Every aspiration you have in prayer needs an accompanying action. Otherwise youre not really praying. Youre just pontificating.You do the natural. Trust God for the super.

People who fit dont seek. The seekers are those that dont fit.
